What should be packed in my carry-on bag? What goes in my checked luggage?

To save time and minimize inconvenience, we recommend advanced planning about the items with which you want to travel. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Web site contains the best information about permitted and prohibited items. You should, for example, understand TSA's 3-1-1- Rule for liquids, gels, and aerosols in carry-on bags. Avoid packing valuable jewelry, electronics, or important documents in checked luggage. Those who want or need to travel with medication and medical devices, electronics, sharp objects, sporting goods, guns, tools, self-defense items, explosive and flammable materials, food and drinks, and other items should review the specifics posted on TSA's Web site at www.tsa.gov.

Can I take my film or x-rays through the security check-point?

Film or x-rays should NOT be put through the x-ray/screening machines. You may request a hand search from the security agent at the check-point.  For more information, please visit www.tsa.gov.

How many bags am I allowed to take on my flight?

In general, passengers are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item such as a purse or laptop in the airplane cabin. The size, quantity, and cost for checked baggage varies by airline. Contact your airline for specific information. 

What do if I need help with my luggage?

Ask a colleague, friend, or family member to drop you at your airline's curbside check-in station when departing. If you are arriving, drivers may pull their vehicles to the Arrivals Level curb outside Baggage Claim to help you load your luggage. You may also rent "Smart Carte" luggage carts in various locations throughout the airport:

  • Outside the terminal on the Arrivals Level sidewalk
  • On the third floor of the parking garage near the elevators
  • Outside the Ground Transportation Center
  • Inside the terminal in Baggage Claim
